Meet our Spring 2022 Intern: Rumooz Al Ghanim. Rumooz is a senior at the University of North Florida studying Public Relations. A passionate advocate, Rumooz was ecstatic about the possibility of interning alongside a non-profit organization. Outside of her academic pursuits, she enjoys painting, watching Arabic movies, and most of all, creative writing.

Her passion for non-profit work originated after she and her family immigrated from Iraq to the United States with the help of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Though she loved Iraq, The UNHCR’s aid in her families’ refuge prompted her devotion for advocacy. She prides herself on the bond that she shares with her family, and feels passionate about the importance of hard work and diligence. “Every day you think there’s someone like me, from my country, still living in that struggle and I have an opportunity to do better for myself”.

In 2016 she moved from Wisconsin to Jacksonville where she attended Englewood high school and in 2019, graduated from Fletcher High School. During this time, she was a participant in the “Take Stock in Children” program, one that the Scheidel Prep Club also emphasizes for their students. Her college success coach and personal mentor, Jeff Trenovich, helped her prepare for college applications, SAT’s, and life as a first-generation college student. These opportunities helped her successfully apply and enroll at the University of North Florida.

Rumooz hopes to continue working in non-profits after completion of her internship and graduation at UNF in Spring 2022. She ultimately wants to change lives and complete work that betters humanity. We are incredibly lucky to work alongside talented people like Rumooz!

Rumooz excitedly applied to Beaches Habitat for Humanity to complete her internship credit prior to graduation. Rumooz was familiar with Habitat for Humanity’s work because her friend was raised in a Habitat home. After more research on the need for affordable housing, she felt compelled to act as an agent of change. Her responsibilities as an Intern for Beaches Habitat for Humanity include researching funding opportunities and planning marketing strategies. Currently, she is helping organize and raise funds for our annual Builders Classic Golf Tournament. All proceeds from the golf tournament helps Beaches Habitat continue to be a hand up to families in need of an affordable place to call home.
