Reports to: Construction Director
Service Week (days/times): Tuesday – Thursday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM; Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM; Saturday, 7:00 AM to 12:30 PM with occasional evenings, Sundays or Mondays
The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.
Service Activities:
- Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
- Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
- Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
- Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.
This position will focus on home construction, home repair, and neighborhood revitalization aspects of Beaches Habitat's operations.
Minimum Requirements:
- AmeriCorps members must be U.S. citizens, national or lawful permanent residents.
- AmeriCorps members must be at least 18 or older.
- AmeriCorps members must have a high school diploma or GED.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are Volunteers in Service to America who perform indirect service to build capacity and sustainable solutions.

The Repair Program Development VISTA member will create, document, and implement a plan to improve the Repair Program and general construction operations. This will include the development of strategies and systems to engage veterans and seniors at the community level; to identify focus areas, stakeholders, and new projects, and to manage documents, data, inventory, budget, and scheduling. Test, evaluate and revise the project plan; develop manuals and training to ensure sustainability beyond your service.
Service Activities:
- Evaluate current Repair Program policies from application to final walk-through. Review resources available and compare findings to current methods.
- Identify focus areas/neighborhoods that could benefit from Repair Program projects. Gather/demographic data/identify populations/needs within those neighborhoods.
- Research Home Preservation, Neighborhood Revitalization, Critical Home Repair, Weatherization, and Accessibility and Safety Modifications.
- Develop and document a plan to expand the host site’s Repair Program.
- Develop community partnerships that provide new repair projects and support.
- Develop Repair Program systems to manage important documents, data, inventory, budget, and scheduling.
- Develop evaluation tools that will assist in projecting and assessing impact of the Repair Program.
- Implement new systems to manage important documents, data, inventory, budget, and scheduling. Evaluate changes, collect feedback, and adjust as needed.
- Develop a manual of resources and update the Repair Program policy.
This position will focus on home repair, neighborhood revitalizations, and research, monitoring, and/or evaluation aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.
Minimum Requirements:
- AmeriCorps members must hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens or is a person residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status.
- AmeriCorps members must be at least 18 or older.
- AmeriCorps members must have a high school diploma or GED.

Habitat for Humanity International receives funding from AmeriCorps to support the Habitat AmeriCorps program.

Extra Benefits
In addition to the standard benefits that AmeriCorps members receive, Beaches Habitat’s members have access to a rent-free, furnished apartment with laundry facilities (shared with another member). Beaches Habitat also provides each AmeriCorps construction member with a new set of basic hand tools. All members are eligible for service-related mileage and travel reimbursements.
AmeriCorps National
Construction Crew Leader and Volunteer Services Coordinator Positions
- Living allowance minimum of $17,600 for full-time positions and $9,350 for part-time positions for 10½ months of service.
- The Segal Education Award of $7,395 for full-time positions and $3,697.50 for part-time positions following successful completion of service. Members may receive the aggregate value of two full-time education awards in their lifetime.
- The education award is good for seven years from the end of service and can be used to repay your qualified student loans or for your future education at eligible schools.
- Many educational institutions have committed to being Schools of National Service and offer additional incentives to AmeriCorps alumni.
- National members age 55 and older at the start of service may be eligible to transfer the award to certain family members.
- Possible forbearance of your qualified student loan, including accrued interest payments after the successful completion of the term of service.
- Health plan benefits – eligible for an Affordable Care Act compliant-health plan.
- Childcare benefits, if you qualify.
- Inclusion in a Member Assistance Program that offers counseling and financial planning resources.
- Worker’s compensation.

AmeriCorps VISTA
Repair Program Development and Resource Development Positions
- Living allowance of $22,881.85 for one year of service.
- Segal Education Award of $7,395 (lifetime maximum of two full education awards) OR end-of-service cash stipend of approximately $1,800, upon successful completion of service. Members may receive the aggregate value of two full-time education awards in their lifetime.
- The education award is good for seven years from the end of service and can be used to repay your qualified student loans or for your future education at eligible schools.
- Many educational institutions have committed to being Schools of National Service and offer additional incentives to AmeriCorps alumni.
- Possible forbearance of your qualified student loan, including accrued interest payments after the successful completion of the term of service.
- Health plan benefits.
- Members who are not legally exempt from maintaining health care coverage are expected to have primary health coverage outside of VISTA. The plan benefits provide support to existing coverage to supplement some out-of-pocket, nonpremium costs of a plan that is secured on your own. This plan is not insurance and does not meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
- Childcare benefits, if you qualify.
- Mileage-based travel allowance of up to $1,000 for relocating more than 50 miles to serve; relocation allowance of $750.
- Non-competitive eligibility hiring status for federal government jobs for one year following your service.
- Upon successful completion of service, access to more than 600 Employers of National Service.
