Scheidel Prep Club/TSIC
The Prep Club/TSIC is a college preparatory and rewards program.
Initiated in 2000 by Herb and Miyuki Scheidel and supported by the Scheidel Foundation, Prep Club's goal is to encourage children in Habitat homes to pursue higher education. Students are encouraged to stay in school, to take pride in perfect attendance, and to achieve consistently high grades. As an important supplementary goal, the Prep Club Program works to instill financial literacy among award recipients and promotes the lifelong habit of saving and sound financial planning.
Thanks to a partnership with Take Stock in Children (TSIC), children of Beaches Habitat homeowners can participate in the program from 6th grade until high school graduation. Through Prep Club/TSIC, students receive:
- one-on-one in-school advice to prepare for college,
- support from a college success coach, and
- guidance from a caring mentor.
Participants celebrate their achievements at periodic Prep Club parties, where they are recognized and receive awards for their school-related achievements.
Scheidel Scholarship Programs
Scheidel Scholarships give Beaches Habitat families the opportunity to start or continue their college education. Children of Beaches Habitat for Humanity homeowners have access to the Scheidel Scholarships at the University of North Florida and Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). Homeowners themselves can use the scholarship to complete their education at FSCJ. The scholarships cover tuition and other expenses to help students receive a certificate, Associate's or Bachelor’s degree.
